Installing defibrillators in every corner of every football stadium

#OneInEveryCorner Mission

Football was a huge part of Lauren Walker’s life. Alongside her dad, Paul Gregory, better known to Sheffield Wednesday and England supporters as “Tango”, she spent years travelling the country, following the game they both loved and creating memories together along the way.

But one moment would change everything. Three years before Lauren passed away, she suffered a cardiac arrest. Paramedics were able to reach her and use a defibrillator to successfully revive her, giving Lauren and her family more precious time together. For Paul, the importance of having a defibrillator nearby was no longer something abstract. He had seen first-hand the difference it could make.

When Lauren sadly passed away in 2023, aged just 29, Paul wanted her name to live on through something that could help other families. He knew that if more defibrillators were available in the places people gather every day, more people experiencing a cardiac arrest could have the same chance Lauren had been given.

That idea became Lauren’s Legacy. Working with Red Sky Foundation, Paul helped create #OneInEveryCorner, an ambitious campaign to place life-saving defibrillators around all 92 Premier League and EFL football stadiums in England.

The aim goes far beyond matchday. By installing defibrillators externally, they can be available to the public 365 days a year, supporting supporters, stadium staff, local residents and anyone who may suffer a cardiac arrest nearby. With only around one in ten people surviving an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, access to early CPR and defibrillation can be critical.

For Paul, every club that joins the campaign and every defibrillator installed carries Lauren’s story forward. What began with a shared love of football has become a mission to help protect the game, its supporters and the communities that surround it, while creating a lasting legacy in Lauren’s name.

Red Sky Foundation began with a promise made on one of the most difficult mornings any parent could face. In 2015, Sergio and Emma Petrucci were at Newcastle’s Freeman Hospital as their daughter Luna underwent life-saving heart surgery. Looking out of the hospital window that morning, Sergio saw a striking red sunrise and promised that, if Luna recovered, he would find a way to give something back.

Luna’s surgery was successful, and that promise became Red Sky Foundation. What began as one family wanting to thank the people who saved their daughter’s life has grown into a North East charity dedicated to saving lives, supporting heart health and making defibrillators more accessible across the region.

In 2023, Sergio and Emma were both awarded MBEs by The King for their services to health and the community in North East England, recognising years of fundraising, supporting cardiac care, raising awareness of CPR and defibrillators, and helping families affected by heart conditions.

A major part of Red Sky Foundation’s work has focused on placing defibrillators in the heart of communities, where they can be reached quickly during a cardiac arrest. One of its biggest local campaigns helped equip police response vehicles across Northumbria Police and Durham Constabulary with life-saving defibrillators.

Through fundraising, community defibrillators, CPR education, heart health awareness and support for families receiving cardiac care, Red Sky Foundation continues to turn one family’s experience into something that can give others a second chance. Their work also raises awareness around heart conditions, transplantation and organ donation.

That is why #OneInEveryCorner feels like such a natural next chapter. Having experienced first-hand what it means for someone you love to be given another chance at life, Sergio and Emma know that every second matters in a cardiac arrest. They are proud to stand alongside Tango and help build Lauren’s Legacy, bringing more life-saving defibrillators to football grounds and communities across England.
